This event offers a practical introduction to intellectual property law with a focus on patents. It explains the requirements for the patentability of inventions and outlines the lifecycle of a patent. Special emphasis is placed on research: why and how do you conduct searches in patent and non-patent literature? How can one evaluate and make further use of search results? The session will also explain the structure of an invention disclosure, the documents required for a patent application, and the benefits of an invention disclosure for Clausthal University of Technology and for the inventors.
